Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus Display Review – The Adreno 506 GPU integrated in the Galaxy A6 + is a mid-range graphics card for smartphones, capable of easily managing most games from the App Store. In our tests, the games “Dead Trigger 2” and “Temple Run 2” have always worked without problems, and the programs that require the use of the position sensor worked without much delay. For long periods of time, the level of friction between the screen and the user’s finger is too high and can be a bit awkward. We use the Gamebench tool to record frame rates. The tool is available as an application for smartphones or desktop applications.

Samsung has chosen a Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2220×1080 pixels for the new Galaxy A6 +. OLED technology is designed to provide better color reproduction and viewing angle stability while consuming less energy. The advantages and disadvantages of IPS panels compared to OLED panels in laptops are discussed in our article Screen comparison: OLED versus IPS. Although the focus is primarily on laptop screens, our findings also apply to smartphone screens.
Devices with IPS panels in this price range do not reach higher average brightness levels than our test device. The brightness distribution of the screen is similar to 93% across the screen, placing the Galaxy A6 + first, along with Sony’s Xperia XA2 and the Galaxy A5 (2017). The average brightness level of 513 cd / m² was exceeded in our APL measurement and increased to 659 cd / m². This test simulates everyday conditions with light and dark areas evenly distributed in all parts of the screen. Note: These brightness levels can only be achieved when the ambient light sensor is active. If the sensor is off, the brightness is limited to 331 cd / m².
OLED technology can reproduce black so rich and rich that our measurement tools cannot generate a result. The same goes for the contrast ratio, which is also unprecedented in the IPS panels of other smartphones. These excellent results are tangible in use. For example, in a dark room, the Galaxy A6 + is invisible if a completely black image is displayed on the screen. Even in daylight, the dark areas of an image look very rich and hardly distinguish themselves from the dark outline around the screen of the Samsung A6 Plus.
In the color profile setting, color reproduction can be customized manually or the user can choose between three presets. An analysis of these three profiles reveals that the “Simple” parameter creates a balanced color profile in the sRGB color space. Adobe RGB mode greatly expands the color space, and the Cinema profile shifts all colors to the warmest end of the scale.
The brightness of the screen of the A6 + is enough to see the contents of the screen outdoors without problems. In cloudy weather, reflections on the screen are not a problem either. However, in full sun, our test device cannot overcome the intense ambient light. Therefore, it is better if someone who tries to use the smartphone for a prolonged period finds a shady place.
As for the viewing angle stability, the Galaxy A6 + OLED panel can withstand competition. From all angles, the screen content is accurate and easily recognizable. This means that the user always has a clear view of the contents of the smartphone screen, even from less than ideal points of view.
The Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus runs on two Qualcomm chips: the Snapdragon 450 and the Adreno 506. Associated with 3 GB of RAM, this hardware configuration is very suitable for a lower mid-range smartphone. In the price range of our test devices, other manufacturers offer faster components. The SoC has 8 cores that can handle 8 threads and clocks at 1800 MHz. The chip, which uses 14 nm process technology, supports LPDDR3 RAM in single channel mode.
In our benchmark tests, the performance of the A6 + is below average. The smartphone is constantly surpassed by its own predecessor, the Galaxy A5 (2017). Compared to the rest of the competition, the A6 + is at the bottom of the list, whether the test is more focused on graphics or professional performance. The Galaxy A6 + cannot follow the same price as smartphones. However, since its price fell to less than 300 euros (about 350 euros) in several online stores, the device may deserve to be compared to smartphones at this price.
The results of the browser performance test are not consistent enough to draw decisive conclusions about the device’s performance. While the Galaxy A6 + ranks last in Jetstream 1.1 and Octane V2, it ensures the first place in the competition in Mozilla Kraken 1.1. In the WebXPRT2015 repository, our test device shows solid performance and is positioned at the average of the competitors. Daily, it is easy to navigate the Samsung smartphone. We do not notice any strange behavior in our tests.
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A6 + with 32GB eMMC flash storage. This storage medium reads and writes data at an average speed and places our test device in the middle range compared to its competitors. The integrated SD card reader, meanwhile, shows higher than average performance. With our reference memory card Toshiba Exceria Pro M501, the Samsung smartphone takes one of the best positions.
